Eclipse (The Corona Party)

Intro]

[Verse 1]

Across the Meseta Central
A hot and empty afternoon
Dry air hangs over the open land
And the sun burns high above

No clouds. No wind.
Nothing moves

The heat has settled into the stone
The fields are pale and dry
The roads run empty through the plain
Beneath an endless sky

Yet something waits.

People climb – From the towns
Up the hills – Across the ridges
Where the horizon opens wide
They face west. They wait.

[Verse 2]

The air grows hazy, strangely still
The distant hills turn grey
The red begins to disappear
From the light of day

Dark glasses everywhere
Turned toward the sky
A little piece is gone.
And then a little more.

[Verse 3]

The sky grows strange.
A Thekla lark falls silent.
A narrowing arc of fading light.
But the sun is still there.

The last bright edge is thinning
The final light grows small
The sky turns dark around the sun
And the land grows still

[Hook]

The daylight disappears.
Darkness fills the sky.
The sun hides its face.
Behind the moon.

The corona takes the stage
In its most magnificent dress
It ripples, bends and glows
Like fire caught in the wind

A radiant smile –
Around the dark -
Great flames reach into darkness
And rise beyond the rim

A crown of light –
A ring of fire –
A hidden world revealed
Before she disappears again

[Verse 4]

And then the darkness loosens
A thread of light breaks through
The colors slowly find their way
Back into the haze

[interupt]
Two minutes – no more.

[verse 4]
Two minutes
for the whole world
To hold its breath and stare

Two minutes
when the day stood still
And something else was there

[Verse 5]

The hills grow quiet -
People descend – Down the ridges -
Back to the roads and little towns
Back to their ordinary lives

The sun still wears a missing piece
The moon has not moved far
The light turns gold.
The shadows grow long.

A bitten edge of fading light
Slides slowly toward the west
And then the broken sun goes down
Into the evening dust

[Outro]

The last small piece of daylight fades
Across the Meseta Central
The last light disappears.
And night arrives for real
